From October 2021 to April 2022, Oxfam Consults provided expertise to War Child UK (WCUK), in Afghanistan, to support the humanitarian response since the Taliban came to power.

The aim was focused on supporting the emergency team in the design of the humanitarian response plan, the scale-up of the operation and advising on technical and business support issues.

The expertise provided focused on humanitarian programme management. In addition to programme design and strategy, other support included: standardising processes, risk management, capacity building, strengthening the coordination mechanism, and supporting other managers in decision-making and implementation methodologies.

Achieving this required adaption to remote working, building trust with the implementation team and learning about the new organisation. This has been key to the success of the relationship between Oxfam Consults and WCUK.

Our consultant felt proud to be a part of the Afghanistan team and to contribute to the growth of Oxfam Consults by providing management capacities as part of Oxfam Consults’ offer.
